NEW YORK regional Railway
New York City has several disparate rail terminals throughout the city. To make a world class system for the city wold not only connect the whole region together, it would be a unique opportunity to create and recreate truly iconic spaces throughout the city.
Current Status
New York City has several rail terminals, all serving different populations to different centers of the city. However, if any of these populations wanted to get to any other centers, a number of transfers are needed. This plan assesses Pennsylvania Station served by NJ Transit and Amtrak, Grand Central Terminal served by the Metro-North Railroad and the Long Island Railroad, Long Island City Station served only by the Long Island Railroad, Atlantic Terminal served only by the Long Island Railroad, World Trade Center Station served only by PATH, and Exchange Place served only by PATH.
The centers served by these terminals have much infrastructure that can be repurposed to help build one central network with many spokes.
A new central station should be built for New York City between Downtown and Midtown Manhattan. This will take pressure off of Penn Station to conduct desperately needed renovations and expansion while ensuring that New Yorkers still have a central location for regional and intercity rail.

The location is in a relatively underdeveloped part of New York while still being equidistant from the Financial District in Downtown and the Central Business District in Midtown, maintaining access to these critical neighborhoods while promoting new development in between them.
